No work is done in a vacuum, art, or otherwise. Writing is no different, perhaps even more so.

To say where an idea originated is an impossible task. However, finding a system of ideas is much easier. I would like to demonstrate this with an example work of mine on a rather obtuse topic: furries.

I know this feels like a departure from the general tone of this blog, however, this involves works of mine and as such holds weight here, even if it's lighter-hearted compared to the more methodical tone of this blog's writing.

First, I would like to lay some foundation about this web. During my freshman year in my Writing and Research class, I was asked to create a project about a specific fan or hobby community, and I decided to go with the Furry fandom. During this project, I got into contact with a professor at a college in New York state, Dr. Kathleen Gerbasi. I discovered that she and another team of researchers had compiled a large amount of research on the furry community. As such, she and her team were of pivotal help to my project. However, her and her team's work is both free and public, and as such has had a much wider influence.

Aside from my script and the YouTube video, as well as other research polls and interviews, I produced for my final project, others have created more work, scientific and otherwise, based on the Fur Science team's work. In the research field, other teams of scientists have used the Fur Science team's project to do more in-depth research into the social phenomenon of fandoms. In the YouTube community, some have gotten interviews with some of the researchers and have also made videos using their research as a jumping-off point to talk about larger issues in the community, such as public perception.

First off, I love the style of your blog! I can't believe I haven't seen it yet! Second, great job on your video. You did a really good job of describing what can come across as a weird topic in a funny, informational way. I also find it very interesting that academic research is being conducted on a fandom community. Great job making the connection!
